Crafting the perfect homemade hummus recipe requires a lot of testing, tweaking, and tasting until it is absolutely perfect. This garlic hummus recipe is absolute perfection. After many batches of simply 'eh' hummus, this is the one. I can say with absolute certainty I will never find another better. It is seriously addicting, ultra-creamy, and packed with so much flavor!
Making this hummus recipe could not be easier. No need to spend hours soaking and cooking fresh beans. This recipe uses canned garbanzo beans, and believe me the texture is spot on. Just a few simple ingredients and a food processor and you're on your way to heavenly hummus. Serve with a side of pita chips or fresh veggies, yes, please!
GARLIC HUMMUS INGREDIENTS:
- Canned chickpeas: Some hummus recipes call for using dried chickpeas then rinsing them for hours before cooking. I've tried making hummus this way and also using canned chickpeas. The hummus made with the canned chickpeas tasted just as good and was so much easier!
- Tahini: Tahini is a paste that is made from sesame seeds. You can make your own or find it in the Hispanic aisle of your grocery store. If buying it from the grocery store make sure you get the unseasoned kind. If all you have is seasoned be sure to adjust the added salt accordingly.
Other Ingredients:
- Olive oil
- Lemon juice
- Garlic
- Salt
- Cumin
- Water
Why is tahini used in hummus?
Tahini is made from sesame seeds that have been soaked in water and then crushed to form an oily paste. Its consistency and flavor resemble that of nut butter. As one of the main ingredients in hummus, tahini does something wonderful to the chickpeas. Like adding salt to avocado. Just a small addition of tahini will amp up hummus' flavor tremendously.
HOMEMADE HUMMUS IS SO EASY TO MAKE!
Never by store brand hummus again. Making it at home is so much better and unbelievably easy. Tahini and chickpeas are complemented beautifully by garlic and lemon. Drain and rinse the chickpeas, add to a food processor with remaining ingredients and pulse until smooth.
