Making this hummus recipe could not be more easy. No need to spend hours soaking and cooking fresh beans. This recipe uses canned garbanzo beans, and believe me the texture is spot on. Just a few simple ingredients and a food processor and you’re on your way to heavenly hummus. Serve with a side of pita chips or fresh veggies, yes, please!

Why is tahini used in hummus?

Tahini is made from sesame seeds that have been soaked in water and then crushed to form an oily paste. Its consistency and flavor resemble that of nut butter. As one of the main ingredients in hummus, tahini does something wonderful to the chickpeas. Like adding salt to avocado. Just a small addition of tahini will amp up hummus’ flavor tremendously.

Never by store brand hummus again. Making it at home is so much better and unbelievably easy. Tahini and chickpeas are complemented beautifully by garlic and lemon. Drain and rinse the chickpeas, add to a food processor with remaining ingredients and pulse until smooth.

Ingredients

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ½ cup tahini
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 15.5 oz. can chickpeas drained and rinsed
  • ¼ tsp. cumin
  • 1 tbsp. water

Instructions

  • Combine ingredients in a food processor and pulse until smooth.
